Getting to Know Your Board Members: Brian Alberti, Member at Large

Where do you work and what is your title?

LEWIS Global Communications and my title is Vice President of Client Engagement

What is your Twitter handle?

@BAlberti

 Briefly summarize your background.

I started my career at the Weber Group (prior to the acquisition of Miller Shandwick) in the Technology practice learning the ropes of client service. I then moved to a little firm called Davies Murphy Group in Lexington, and became one of the senior leaders, focused on running our Cybersecurity practice and also servicing data center, storage, mobile, semiconductor, and software clients. I moved to London for a year to launch our first international office, and a few years later, DMG was acquired by LEWIS. I switched over from account servicing to fill a void in business development, and now work with our office heads in Boston, DC and New York to find the next generation of client partners to drive the business forward.

What kind of industry/clients do you work with?

I don’t actually work with clients on a day-to-day basis, but LEWIS heavily focuses on disruptive B2B and B2C tech companies.

Describe what you do for Pub Club.

I’m in my second season helping to run the Masters’ Institute event series, and also assist with other club events like the Bell Ringers.

Name your top three favorite things about PR.

1) It’s exciting. No day is ever the same as the last one. It keeps the adrenaline pumping.

2) It’s rewarding. Taking a client from unknown startup to industry-recognized leader over the course of years is like planting a garden and giving it the consistent attention it needs to grow into something bigger, stronger and more vibrant.

3) The people. I’ve worked with so many talented colleagues over the years who have drive, intelligence, integrity and creativity. It keeps me learning. It keeps me inspired and hopeful to know that we’re all in it together. This is a fantastic (and sometimes very small!) industry.

Do you have a childhood moment when everyone knew you’d be a communications specialist?

Not a singular moment, but I was always a writer and knew that someday I would be doing it for a living. I didn’t foresee the number of hours I would work in PPT, though!

What is your top getaway destination?

Anywhere that’s a little off the beaten path. I travel a lot and my favorite spots are Abruzzo, Kathmandu, and La Paz. They’re all essentially “off grid” so provide a true getaway. And then there’s always Napa!

If you could take a client to any restaurant in Boston where would you go?

If they were an out of town client, maybe the Top of the Hub for a great view of our city. If local, maybe Toro for some tapas or Gaslight for some French eats. OK, I’m getting hungry now.
